Gregory Michael Piper (b. August 31, 1957) is the current Mayor of Lake Macquarie City Council.
Elected as the Mayor of Lake Macquarie in March 2004, Independent Councillor Greg Piper was first elected to the council in 1991 and served as Deputy Mayor through 2000. He has been active on council, sitting on and chairing, numerous Council and State Government committees.
Greg has always had a strong focus on the natural environment and it was this that led him to stand for Council initially. His role with the Estuary Management Committee, the Lake Macquarie Project Management Committee, the Hunter Waste Management and Planning Board and numerous other committees has allowed him to pursue his goals whilst still attempting to deal with the myriad of issues brought before Council.
Greg currently faces the challenges that are associated with leading Lake Macquarie City. There are huge demands on the city coming as a consequence of rapidly increasing population growth, and there is a great need to balance this development pressure with the protection of the natural environment and the relaxed nature of the city.
Greg has maintained tight relationships with the communities of Bali, and lead "Mercy Missions", taking medical supplies after the 2002 Bali Bombing and the 2005 Bali Bombings.
Greg grew up in the Lake Macquarie suburb of Kahibah. He now live's in Mirrabooka, near the Westlakes suburb of Morriset, with his wife Lyn and Dalmatian.
