John Greg Ganske, born March 31, 1949, is a politician from Iowa. He was once a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives.
Ganske was born in New Hampton, Iowa, and he graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in political science in 1972. In 1976 Ganske graduated from the University of Iowa medical school, where he met and married his wife, Corrine Mickleson. Ganske worked as a plastic surgeon until he launched a negative campaign against veteran Democratic Congressman Neal Smith in 1994. Ganske campaigned in a beige 1958 DeSoto (Smith having won his first congressional race in that year), playing songs from that era.
Ganske served in the House of Representatives from 1995 to 2003. In 2002, he ran, but lost, against Tom Harkin, for a seat in the United States Senate. In 2003, he returned home and reinstated his practice in Des Moines, Iowa.
In 1980, Ganske and wife had their first child, Ingrid Ganske. In 1984 they had a second girl, Briget Ganske. In 1988, the family expanded to five with the addition of the last child, Karl Ganske.
