Greenwich Park branch
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Greenwich Park branch of the erstwhile Southern Railway (built by the London, Chatham and Dover Railway) ran from a junction at Nunhead in a generally north-east direction to a terminus on in Greenwich High Road, close to the north-west corner of Greenwich Park. The line was approximately 3 miles (4.8km) in length.
There were three intermediate stations:
- Brockley Lane
- Lewisham Road
- Blackheath Hill
All the stations were closed on 1 January 1917, during WWI, and the line was abandoned on 1 January 1926. Three years later however the first section was reopened as part of a scheme to run freight trains from Hither Green through London (see the Lewisham station article.
