Green tea ice cream
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Green tea ice cream (抹茶アイスクリーム Matcha aisu kurīmu?) is a Japanese ice cream flavour. This flavour is extremely popular in Japan, and almost all ice cream manufacturers produce a version of it, including foreign vendors such as Häagen-Dazs. It is green in colour. The name in Japanese is matcha ice cream, where matcha is a specific type of green tea used in the Japanese tea ceremony. Matcha is also used in many other sweets in Japan. Green tea ice cream is also sold in monaka form.
[edit] Practical Joke
Normally, sushi and some other Japanese foods are served with a decorative scoop of wasabi, a condiment that some westerners might not recognize. Because of a similar texture and color (despite wasabi, a paste, not melting such as iced cream does), it is often easy to trick people into thinking it's "Green Tea Ice Cream." When the foreigner eagerly tries a sample, they are greeted with an intense burning sensation.
