Green Valley Lake, California
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Green Valley Lake is an unincorporated community in San Bernardino County, California.
The community is north of Running Springs, California, and is between the communities of Big Bear Lake and Lake Arrowhead. The main feature of the community is the large, 33-acre lake that centers the community. Although the lake is smaller than nearby lakes, like Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake, it is the most accessible and least polluted of all lakes in the mountain area.
The community is set at an elevation of 7,200 feet, and is the highest subdivision in the San Bernardino National Forest. Properties in the community tend to be much smaller, and much less expensive than the surrounding areas, and poverty levels are quite a bit higher than the surrounding communities. This is due to the dry economy of the community.
A small ski resort is located to the south of the community, but is often under-occupied due to much larger resorts of similar nature in Big Bear. It is one of the only communities where the residents are not primarily seasonal, but are rather full time residents. Many of the communities that surround Green Valley Lake tend to cater to vacationers, however, Green Valley Lake provides one rare exception.
