Green Valley High School (GVHS) is a public secondary school in Henderson, Nevada, U.S. that is a part of the Clark County School District. Its mascot is the Gator and the school's colors are green, blue, and white.

The school was named after the masterplanned community of Green Valley which is located in northern Henderson. The school opened in the fall of 1991, with Carroll Johnson as the first principal. Enrollment in 2004 was 2,739.

[edit] Athletics

  • The varsity Baseball team, led by Roger Fairless won six straight state titles from 1993-1998, Nick Garritano led the Baseball team to a seventh state title in 2001.
  • The varsity girls' golf team, with 144 consecutive victories from 1992-2004, holds the high school level national record for most consecutive victories.

  • The forensics team, led by Scott Ginger, has won twelve state championships since 1991.
  • The fine arts department was awarded National Grammy Signature Status in 2002 and 2005.
  • Varsity quiz team, led by Craig Swallow, has won six county championships since 1991.
  • Science bowl team, led by Ellen Ebert and Joan Taylor, finished in the top ten at the regional DOE Science Bowl four times since 2000.
  • The Green Valley High School choral department has been recognized as one of the top choir programs in the nation.
  • In 2005, The Green Valley High Schools Symphonic band led by Diane Koutsulius was the first band in the state of Nevada to participate in the Midwest Clinic in Chicago, Illionis.
  • The Symphonic Band and Symphony orchestra was honored by playing at Carnegie Hall in April, 2006.
  • The Investigator Newspaper, led by Ben Barnholdt and Jackie Carducci, has been voted Best High School Newspaper in Nevada 8 of the past 10 years, and the past 3 years in a row(2003-2006).
