Green Square railway station is an underground station on the Airport branch of the Airport and East Hills line. It is located at Green Square, a small park at the northern tip of Alexandria. Like other stations on this line, it was built and is operated by a private company and station users must pay a $2 access fee.
Green Square was constructed as a commuter station. Together with St Peters, it serves the industrial and business areas of Alexandria. Although more trains stop at Green Square, St Peters is still the more favoured station for Alexandria because of the access fee at Green Square.
The low patronage at Green Square should change after the completion of the large residential commercial redevelopment in nearby Zetland and the large urban renewal project for the area which is being considered by the Central Sydney Planning Committee in December 2005 [1].
