Green Gulch Farm Zen Center, (Green Dragon Temple, or Soryu-ji), is located in Sausalito, CA situated in a valley right on the Pacific Ocean. It is home to about 60 people, and is a Soto Zen temple and training area teaching Zen practice and ecological consciousness. It is also one of three temples that make up the whole of San Francisco Zen Center. Green Gulch Farm was originally purchased in 1972 from a local rancher for use as a rural retreat center. On location are nine acres of organic farms which provide students and guests some training in organic agriculture. The center has a beautiful octagonal Japanese joinery style guest house, and facilities that can be rented for retreats. The land is surrounded by nationally protected lands which form parts of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Mount Tamalpais State Park, and the Marin County Water District. In 1979 Green's Restaurant was opened in Fort Mason, CA. City Center, located in the heart of San Francisco, was founded by Shunryu Suzuki-roshi (a major pioneer in bringing Soto Zen practice to the United States). Green Gulch Farm's head abbess is Jiko Linda Cutts and the senior Dharma teacher is currently Tenshin Reb Anderson, where they both live on location.
