Green Bloggers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Green Bloggers is a group of bloggers who believe in green or in environmental values that was created in September 2005 by Craig Cantin. Green Bloggers maintain their own blogs, whose content is then aggregated on both the main Green Bloggers website and on various nation-specific pages.

[edit] Canadian Origins

Green Bloggers started out as a small group of people who were members of the Green Party of Canada. On the Canadian political scene, Green Bloggers has joined the ranks of the other four major political blogging groups (Progressive Bloggers, Blogging Tories, Liblogs, and Blogging Dippers). A number of Green Bloggers are also Progressive Bloggers, due to the nature of Progressive Bloggers not being affiliated with any particular political group.

[edit] Election 2006

In the 2006 federal election, Green Bloggers was spotlighted with the other political blog groups on one of the major Canadian TV networks, CTV. A number of Green Party candidates who had blogs also used Green Bloggers as a medium to get their message out.

[edit] International Expansion

Since the election, Green Bloggers has grown in a short period of time to include bloggers from other nations as well, including America, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. Some of the bloggers include Green Party candidates who have been elected in their constituency.

The scope of Green Bloggers has also broadened to include non-political environmentalists.

[edit] Joining the Green Bloggers

Green Bloggers currently has over 150 members in over a dozen different countries. Membership is free and open to any blog anywhere in the world whose owner supports green or environmental values. Canadian Green Party Leader Elizabeth May is one of the more recognizable members, but there are several UK local council members as well.

While the primary language on Green Bloggers is English, there are now French and Spanish-speaking bloggers as well.
