Green (RTA Rapid Transit station)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Green Road is the terminus of the Green Line branch of the Cleveland Rapid in Shaker Heights, Ohio.

Originally, the line was graded by the Van Swergins in the 1920s to extend out to Pepper Pike, Ohio but the stock market crash of 1929 put a end to that. Proposals have been forwarded from time to time to extend the line, but have been blocked by Beachwood, Ohio officials because of racial fears of black migration. The right of way was sold by RTA in 1997 for use as Park and Bike Trail to the city of Beachwood. There is still pressure to build the line out to I-480 to a proposed park and ride and industrial facility, but this probably won't happen unless regionalization and consoldation of Cleveland's fifty suburbs becomes a reality.
