Greater St. Louis is the informal name of the St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area, the largest in the state of Missouri, and the 18th largest in the United States (population: 2,764,054 as of 2004 according to the St. Louis Regional Commerce and Growth Association [RCGA]), includes the independent City of St. Louis, St. Louis County (which does not include the City of St. Louis), the Missouri counties of Saint Charles, Jefferson, Franklin, Lincoln and Warren, and the Illinois counties of Madison, Saint Clair, Clinton, Monroe and Jersey.
