[edit] History
Trails, rails and highways that have used the "Platte River Road" include:
- Oregon Trail/California Trail/Mormon Trail
- Pony Express
- First Transcontinental Railroad
- Lincoln Highway/U.S. Route 30
- Interstate 80
A monument and tourist attraction highlighting the Platte River valley was a goal of former Governor Frank B. Morrison. In 2000, the Archway Monument opened to the public; however, overly optimistic visitor projections forced the monument to cut expenses and refinance its bond payments. A shift of focus to educational and group tours has given the monument a more stable financial footing.
[edit] Driving directions
Although the Archway Monument spans Interstate 80, access to the monument is via Exit 272, three miles to the west of the monument. Take Nebraska Highway 44 north to Talmadge St., then turn east onto Archway Parkway.
