From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Great Float, is a dock at Birkenhead, United Kingdom. It was built between 1851-1860. It was built on the site of Wallasey Pool, the entrance was through Egerton Dock. The construction of Alfred Dock in 1866 provided access for larger ships.
It has 110 acres (450,000 m²) of water and more than four miles (6 km) of quays, divided between the East Float and the West Float. Bidston Dock was, formerly, adjoining the West Float but was filled in during 2002.
The Resurgam was tested in the great float.
