[edit] Thank you for your belated introduction
Do all contributors receive a welcome?
I was a Top 100 contributor to the IMDb for a couple of years, but I suppose I am trying something different now. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Varlaam (talk • contribs) .
[edit] Thank you...
...for your show of support during my recent RfA, although I would have much rather had some free pizza coupons or a CD of your band, your kind words were nice, too :) Seriously, though, if you ever need another admin hand helping you out or just need someone from a fresh outlook to read through an article, just holler over my direction. Also, if you were wondering, all West Virginians really do sound like Randy Moss. I cringe every time I hear my answering machine. Cheers. youngamerican (ahoy hoy) 14:07, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] How does someone request an official dispute on the talk page of an article?
I would like to bring up a dispute to a talk page but I don't know where to start.
What I mean is that I want one of those on an article page:
The inclusion of one or more of the categories on this page is disputed. Please see the relevant discussion on the talk page.
Thanks

[edit] Requesting a moderator or administrator
Hi there,
Someone once gave me a link that I could use to request the assistance of a moderator or administrator, but I lost it. I was wondering if you knew what it was.
Thank you

[edit] Groovy
I refuse to interact with myspace beyond going to band pages (like yours) but I request a show in Huntington, WV. youngamerican (ahoy hoy) 19:32, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
As much as it breaks my heart, Huntington kind of sucks for live music (Marshall is a suitcase college). Morgantown, however, is party central. Those couch-burning hillbillies at WVU love them some good live acts.
Whats the deal with bass players, anyway? geesh youngamerican (ahoy hoy) 19:46, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Suporto
Hehe, actually the verb suportar in Portuguese is a bad friend of to support in English. "Eu suporto" means "I can put up with". :-) Not to worry, your meaning there is clear. Thanks btw. I don't know any admin from Portugal on en-WP as a matter of fact. Best regards.--Húsönd 19:40, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

User:Danfifepsu needs to be blocked. He has (and still is) continually blanking/protecting Disney movie pages. -WarthogDemon 20:07, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Baby name
Thanks for reverting on the baby name page. That worth a block? All the account has done is vandalize so far. -Ravedave (help name my baby) 22:04, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] How do I reply?
Hi, When I read your message, I was expecting a Reply or Continue button, or something. Do I just need new glasses? Varlaam 02:23, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Silly, silly man
You want someone to source Raven Riley's ethnicity? Ha. I've been watching this one for months because linkspammers were targetting it for a while, and the entire time has been ongoing edit wars over her ethnic background. No one has yet produced anything remotely like a source, and the majority of edits have been from anons. Good luck. Fan-1967 21:58, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- LOL I know. That's why I asked. (Maybe I'll look for it myself in a little while. I wonder if I'll be able to find anything reliable.) Grandmasterka 22:04, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

- The funny thing is that the people who have been battling over it seem to think it's extremely important. Since I know nothing about the woman I have no idea, nor do I see why anyone cares that much, but I guess somebody cares. Fan-1967 22:07, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RfA thanks
Thank you so much, Grandmasterka, for your support in my RfA, which passed on November 11, 2006, with a final tally of 82/0/2. I am humbled by the kind support of so many fellow Wikipedians, and I vow to continue to work and improve with the help of these new tools. Should you have any request, do not hesitate to contact me. [edit] Image:Terry Mulholland.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Terry Mulholland.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Chowbok ☠ 03:25, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Hazzard
Hi Grandmasterka, In the order in which I saw things, here is what happened:
- I was going through the Speedy delete candidates category, and found Hazzard in this state: [1]
- I forgot to check the history (oops - I should have done!) and deleted it;
- A previous editor of the article User:OddMNilsen questioned the deletion saying he saw the delete message and the content was very different to the article he previously edited at that name.
- I checked the content, and saw that the band in question had shared members with Sweet and Accept, so assumed good faith that it was notable, and restored the article.
- I restored almost the entire history because the previous speedy deletes were because previous admins made the same mistake as me - the page has been vandalised/changed and they did not check the history before deleting. (It does not hurt to have "bad" history there - we don't delete individual revisions of vandalism, for example - unless there are legal issues.)
If you think it needs to go to AfD, do so, I don't have an interest in the article itself - I restored it based on OddMNilsen's comments (see Talk:Hazzard). -- Chuq 08:04, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks for reverting the vandalism
...to Robert Hager and Robert Bazell. I was surprised to see the personal attacks there by that anon IP (I had never crossed paths with the user before). I decided to investigate, and the IP traced to Houston, TX which set off some alarm bells. I had recently nominated an article for deletion, the result of which was Speedy Delete. The article was on a street gang from Houston, and its creator and sole editor was DOTA123. I was wondering where I'd go to (if there existed any place on Wikipedia) to check if 166.102.136.59 was the same as DOTA123. It's not exactly a sockpuppet case is it, since the user didn't do anything particularly egregious (yet)? Gzkn 01:37, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. I'll just hope that it was just a one time thing. All the best, Gzkn 09:22, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Numbers as words in the MOS
Just to let you know, re: Template:In the news, [2], I wrote that section of the MOS and it wisely includes using the same numbering system within a list or context. —Centrx→talk • 07:18, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Shadowbot
The bot was not malfunctioning, I have Livejournal on the bot's blacklist. However, due to this incident, I've temporarily removed Livejournal and similar sites from Shadowbot's blacklist until I can resolve the underlying problem. Thanks for blocking it, though, I don't want to keep reverting good edits. Shadow1 (talk) 12:41, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Switching language?
I just tried to make some corrections to Wikipédia on the French side. But my user name was not recognized there. How come? Do we need to define a list of languages we are competent to make corrections in? Varlaam 06:37, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] My RfA
Oh, the humanity!
I had my doubts about a second RfA, but even I couldn't have predicted the way it caught fire and inexorably drifted to the ground in flames, causing quite a stir on its way down. Still, it was encouraging to see the level of support and confidence. Thank you for yours, and I hope I'll still have it the next time around. Kafziel Talk 13:36, 29 November 2006 (UTC) |
