I am completely in love with Al Pacino, my favourite actor. Especially his performances in Scarface, ...And Justice for All, Donnie Brasco, The Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico, S1m0ne, The Merchant of Venice: he's brilliant in anything and everything he does. On that note, Bette Davis is my favourite actress. I'd love to adapt Of Human Bondage to the stage in my hometown. Stanley Kubrick is my favourite director, he is a genius. Being the obsessive-compulsive intellectual that I am (cough), I seek out puzzles that I can disect and analyse until my brain threatens to hang itself in protest of tedious labour brought on by procrastination. Films like 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Shining and Full Metal Jacket can leave me for days drooling into a cup wondering which abstract concept to begin wrestling with. Other films I love include The Last Laugh, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Blue Velvet, Run Lola Run, Baraka, Closet Land, Midnight Express and Life of Brian. But then, I also value simplicity in films. Charlie Chaplin in City Lights brought tears to my eyes, with the moving, endearing ending. I've unsuccessfully attempted to vow to stay away from television, but it's magnetic grasp on me has proven impossible to sever entirely. I favour comedies and forensic programs, including: The Simpsons, South Park, Monty Python, Da Ali G Show, Cold Case Files, American Justice, City Confidential and Forensic Files.

I love to read. Shakespeare's soliloquies create catharsis where I feel most ambiguosly empty. My favourite character is Shylock (you can imagine how happy I was when I heard Al Pacino had obtained the role). Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is my favourite novel, I get a kick out of the old "man's inhumanity to man" argument; present in a lot of Kubrick's work. JT Leroy's narrative voice is so childishly honest and unaware, yet through this, he reveals the most demonised subcultures imaginable with such objective scope. I'm a big fan of the Bronte sisters. My favourite would have to be Jane Eyre. Wuthering Heights is close in second. Of course, no depressed teenage girl is such until they've been stamped with a brand of authenticity, requiring the reading of The Bell Jar. I'm also a die hard fan of the Illuminatus! Trilogy, Harry Potter, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, Sons and Lovers, etc. James Ellroy's dark novels, especially My Dark Places and The Black Dahlia, are brilliant. Another inventive depressing novel is The Trick is to Keep Breathing by Scottish writer Janice Galloway.

I have an undeniably eclectic taste in music. My definitive band would have to be Garbage. Shirley Manson, the lead singer, is my idol. I'm a huge fan of electronica and trip hop, my favourite artists in this genre are Goldfrapp, Portishead, and Björk. My favourite composers are Beethoven, Rachmaninov, Liszt, Tchaikovsky, and Krzysztof Penderecki. Fiona Apple, Lisa Gerrard and Cat Power have the three most rousingly ethereal voices in music. Their voices manage to distill time, creating a certain invigorating therapy by just listening. In contrast, I'm also a big fan of other genres like electroclash (Peaches and Chicks on Speed), industrial/gothic (Dead Can Dance, Rasputina, Nine Inch Nails and Delerium).
