Gravitation (M. C. Escher)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gravitation (also known as Gravity) is a lithograph print by the Dutch artist M. C. Escher which was first printed in June, 1952.
It depicts a polyhedron known as a small stellated dodecahedron. Each side of the polygon has a semi-rectangular doorway. Out of these doorways protrude the heads and legs of twelve turtles without shells, who are using the object as a common shell. The turtles are in six coloured pairs with each turtle directly opposite its pair. The six colours are red, orange, yellow, magenta, brown and indigo.
This was printed as a black-and-white lithograph and the turtles were coloured by hand in watercolour.
