The Grasswidow (or Grass-widow) is a widow whose husband will return in a limited period of time, usually a voyage. The male version is the grasswidower.
[edit] Term
The "grass" refers to the mattress, which used to be filled with grass: The "widow" is left back on the grass/mattress. The grasswidower nowadays can imply that the husband is helpless left home alone in the kitchen.
