Grangetown, Tyne and Wear

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Grangetown is a suburb of Sunderland in Tyne and Wear, England. It is situated two miles south of Sunderland City Centre and two miles north of Ryhope. Grangetown is known for heavy traffic congestion, as it contains the intersection of the A1018 road (which is the original route of the A19 and the main road into Sunderland from the south) and the A19. In 2005 work started on the A1018 Sunderland Southern Radial Route, a new bypass for Grangetown and Ryhope. Work is expected to be completed in 2007.
