Grandcamp-Maisy

Grandcamp-Maisy is a commune of the département of Calvados, in the Basse-Normandie région, in France. Its postal code is 14450. The INSEE code is 14312.

In November 1, 1972, the commune formerly known as Grandcamp-les-Bains amalgamated with Maisy (Its old INSEE code was 14392) and changed its name to Grandcamp-Maisy.

On 24th January 2006, a secret underground military complex used by the Nazis was discovered by an amateur historian, Gary Sterne. The labyrinth of underground tunnels has a secret entrance that had remained hidden for around 60 years. It contains an office, a supplies house, a general quarters, radio room and many other blocks including an underground hospital. It is currently being examined by historians and there are plans to turn it into a tourist attraction.
