Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris

The Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris is a horse racing steeplechase which takes place at Auteuil Racecourse, France in May.

It is a Grade 1 race for five-year-old and above horses and is run over a distance of 5,800 metres (approximately 3 miles 5 furlongs), with twenty-three fences to be jumped.

It was first held in 1874 and was initially called the Grand National de France until the present name was adopted in 1876. It is now the top steeplechase event in France. The 2006 winning prize was €720,000 (approximately £480,000).
