The Grand Rapids Flight are a team in the International Basketball League based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Flight are directed by Tyler Whitcomb, who is the youngest team director in the league.
The Flight played inaugural season home games at Wyoming Park High School in Wyoming, Michigan, where the team averaged about 500 fans per game. Games in the 2006 season will be played at Ford Fieldhouse, the home of Grand Rapids Community College.
On the court, the team was a solid success, with a 13-6 record. The team featured five all-stars (Dametrius Kilgore, James Singleton, Mike Dyson, Jason Boucher and Oscar Sanders), more than any other team. None of these players made the top 25 in scoring.
Terry Sare will coach the Flight for the 2006 season, after the contract of head coach Steve Hettinga was not renewed.
The Grand Rapids Flight currently hold the record for most points scored in a single game, after a 179-146 drubbing of the Des Moines Heat.
The Grand Rapids Flight are unrelated to the former basketball team that played in Grand Rapids, the Grand Rapids Hoops.
