A large pier with a lighthouse and pierhead fog signal building is next to the state park on the south side of the river. The pier connects to a boardwalk along the south side of the river. The boardwalk extends far into the city features many restaurants and shops. The lighthouse was originally built in 1839 and rebuilt in 1905 at its present location.
