Gran Concepción

Gran Concepción (Greater Concepción) is the third largest conurbation in Chile, after Greater Santiago and Gran Valparaíso. It is considered, along with the Greater Valparaiso, like the second more important city in Chile.

It takes this name after the city of Concepción, the oldest city and the most important of the group.

The aglomeration is composed by:

Gran Concepción also has the second largest concentration of universities in Chile. Besides the Traditional Universities, it has several private institutions. The Universidad de Concepción is the most important university of the conurbation.

There is a metro system which serves most of the "comunas" in the conurbation: Biotren.
