Grace Stafford
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Grace Stafford (b. New York City on November 7, 1903 – d. March 17, 1992 in Los Angeles), was an American actress, the wife of animation producer Walter Lantz.
She is best known (as Gracie Lantz) for providing the voice of Lantz's most famous character, Woody Woodpecker, from 1950 until 1990. It was not until 1958 in the cartoon Misguided missile that she received credit as the voice of the beloved cartoon character however, as Grace believed that children would be disillusioned if they knew Woody was played by a woman.
In addition she also played small parts in films such as Margie and Doc Savage throughout her life.
She died, aged 89, from cancer in Los Angeles.
