Graben is one of the most important streets in Vienna's first district, the city centre, quite close to the Stephansdom. It takes its name from the wall of one of the moats of the Roman encampment of Vindobona which was located there in ancient times.

Another street in the first district is called Tiefer Graben (deep ditch), which is crossed by Wipplinger Straße by means of a bridge about ten metres above Tiefer Graben.
