The 19th Dáil was elected on June 18, 1969 and first met on July 2 when the 13th Government of Ireland was appointed. The 19th Dáil lasted for 1,351 days.

Due to the Arms Crisis, Charles Haughey and Neil Blaney were sacked by Jack Lynch on 6 May 1970 when they refused to resign. Kevin Boland resigned from the government in protest at the sackings. Micheál Ó Móráin who was in hospital at the time was asked to resign on 4 May.
