Government Engineering College, Thrissur

The Government Engineering College , Thrissur ( Trichur ) is the second oldest Engineering College in Kerala. It is located at Ramavarmapuram, 4 km from the center of Thrissur, Kerala, India.

Popularly known as GEC-T, this college was established in 1954. The foundation stone was laid by the first prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru and inaugurated by first chief minister of Kerala, Pattom Thanu Pillai. It is approved by the AICTE and also accredited by the National Board Of Accreditation (NBA). The College is affiliated with the University of Calicut and is one of the most reputed engineering colleges in south India. Edusat facility also is available in the college.

The college offers undergraduate Bachelor of Technology Degree programs in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Chemical, Electronics and Communication, Computer Science, Production Engineering and Architecture to about 600 students yearly. It also offers postgraduate Master of Technology Degree (Environmental Engineering (Civil), Production & Industrial Engineering (Mechanical) ) and a Master of Computer Applications Degree.

[edit] Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech)

Mode of admission

Candidates for admission to the B.Tech. Degree course are required to have passed the higher secondary or equivalent examination conducted by educational boards or departments recognized by the University. They have to obtain at least 50% marks in Mathematics and not less than 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together. Alternatively they should have passed the diploma examination in engineering or any examination accepted by the Government of Kerala as equivalent. The State and Central governments also specify concessions in the qualifying standards for students who belong to communities designated as backward or underpriviliged.

Admissions are secured based on the conduct of a qualifying examination, called the Common Entrance Examination, which is conducted by the government of Kerala. The examination is a combined qualifying examination for all the candidates in the state of Kerala. Based on the ranking of students in the examination, they have a choice of selecting their desired streams and institutions of study.

Mode of admission

The minimum qualification for admission is B.Sc. Comp. Sc, BCA or B.Sc or B.Com degree with Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects with not less than 55% marks, excluding languages, in the qualifying examination.

Candidates with B.Sc. Comp Sc, BCA , B.Sc/ B.Com degree of the Mahatma Gandhi University or any other degree, accepted as equivalent there to by the Calicut University are alone eligible to apply.
