Government Center Station of the MBTA, located at the intersection of Tremont, Court and Cambridge Streets in the Government Center neighborhood of Boston, is the transfer point between the Green Line and the Blue Line. Before the current Boston City Hall was built, the station was known as Scollay on the Green Line and Scollay Under on the Blue Line.
[edit] Attractions
- Boston City Hall, seat of the city's government
- John F. Kennedy Federal Building
- Faneuil Hall
- Quincy Market
- Freedom Trail
- shops and restaurants
Government Center Station is not wheelchair accessible as of 2005. The Blue Line platform is at the center of the tracks, so wheelchair transfer between inbound and outbound is possible. A renovation that will make the station accessible is planned. See MBTA accessibility. Additionally, as of December 13th, 2006, although token opperated turnstiles have been removed, Government Center still does not have CharlieCard/ Charlie Ticket equipment. Passengers boarding at Government Center must either pay with exact change or show a valid Charlie Ticket pass (not stored value) that MBTA personnel can manually verifiy. Charlie equipment is slated to be installed by January 1st, 2007.
[edit] Trivia
If one peeks around the wall at the east end of the eastbound Blue Line platform one can see a surviving tile mossiac Scollay Under sign.
