Category:Gospel artists from Detroit
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"They say it's something in the water. Detroit has given the world some of the greatest singers in the world..."[1] One would expect a bustling metropolis the size of Detroit, Michigan to have a fair share of notable talent claiming roots there. However, the culture of Detroit, Michigan has produced a disproportionate number of some of the most famous gospel singers in past decades. From those who were taught by and sang in choirs with Mattie Moss Clark (who is believed to be the first to introduce three part harmony into gospel choral music) to the Winans dynasty that produced Grammy-dominators CeCe Winans, BeBe Winans, and also sibling-quintet The Winans, somehow some of the most beloved gospel singers hail from Detroit.
