someone needs to say that Google Video doesn't use VLC anymore. It uses Flash.

[edit] Not supported outside of USA?

I'm in Singapore and I've just played back and searched videos fine... Is it still unavailable in other countries?

Right, the videos are not accessable for example in Germany (Tobias Schmidbauer 20:49, 29 January 2006 (UTC))
The information regarding access from Germany is no longer up to date. The general issue of availability is however been dealt with in the article. (Wi(c)ki 00:19, 21 April 2006 (UTC))

[edit] Google Video deletes broadcast content?

Has Google deleted their broadcast content? I tried to search for "Sesame Street yip yips" (aliens on the show), and nothing came up. PBS had opted in to the thing, so I read. It worked fine a few months ago. -- user:zanimum

The article may need to mention this, as long as there is information regarding this. (Perhaps Google decided to just show the playable videos and withdraw everything else? --WCQuidditch 18:49, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] the user submitted stuff is a cesspool

Somehow someone should mention how the user submitted base is a cesspool of crap ol a crap

Wouldn't that make the article POV? As an encyclopedia, Wikipedia is supposed to be NPOV, and not include things like what you have mentioned. At least, that is what I think. Lime 02:47, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New file format?

I just downloaded a file and it's *.gvp instead of *.gvi. I haven't been able to convert it to any other format using the methods listed on this page.

hobbie 10:39, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

- Ok, I just did some Googling and found out what you have to do. Save the GVP file by following the prompts on the screen(http://xs65.xs.to/pics/06043/googlevid.jpg). Then open the GVP file with a web browser or a text viewer(notepad/wordpad/Word). There's a URL, just copy that loooooooooooong thing. Paste it in your address bar and VOILA! you are asked if you want to download the AVI file. Now for someone to format my crap and make it look pretty.

- Tested and works.--Clipsx 07:16, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

You could let KeepVid do the hard work for you. boffy_b 14:47, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
Isn't that worth mentioning in the article, maybe under Converting GVI Files? hobbie 13:58, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

If you can source the info the answer is definitely, SqueakBox 15:07, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] no ipod

I advise everyone not to download videos to your ipod via google video. I did, and everything on my ipod was erased and i have to get it fixed now because i cant download anything else to it now. BackInBlack 17:20, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] iPod and PSP

When downloading, what is the difference between "Sony PSP" and "Video iPod"? Is it a different format? Mr. Quertee 13:35, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Both are MPEG-4 media files containing an H264 video-stream (part 10) and an AAC audio-stream (part 3). The files differ in other parts of MPEG-4. You could simplify by saying both are basically the same video with different headers. (Wi(c)ki 00:17, 2 May 2006 (UTC)):

[edit] Google Video Player

I've started the Google Video Player article. I'd like someone with more knowlege of the google video format to move/copy any applicable data to that article if possible. Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 23:04, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Is the player really open source? "A previous version of the Google Video web browser plugin was based on a patched version of VLC 0.8.2." http://code.google.com/patches.html So is the current player still based on VLC at all? Horkana

I've merged this article. Mambo Jambo 18:08, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Error on page

I don't know what happened, but now, whenever I click a video from google, it loads a blank screen and at the bottom left corner (in status bar), it shows a yellow caution triangle and the text "error on page". After looking around for a bit, I don't seem to be the only one with this problem, and no one knows how to fix it.

Note: When cookies are cleared, Google Video will work once, then it goes back to the error on page thing on the second video I click. - June 22, 06

[edit] No History?

It would be nice if someone can post a bit about its history - when it got started, etc. Beetle B. 17:28, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Who likes my video.

[edit] Player version

The infobox for the Google Video Player said that the current version was 2.0, but I went to download it, and it said it was 1.0.3, so I corrected it. Where did the 2.0 number come from? Phoenix-forgotten 16:32, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] DMCA Violations?

Is it appropriate for this page to list methods of circumventing Google's attempts to discourage downloading the videos directly? 71.201.49.131 20:36, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

yes --Kalmia 03:56, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Selling videos?

The article claims

[...]make their own media available free of charge or through Google Video Store for a cost that they can set.

It's true that the ability to sell one's own video was widely announced, but I don't think it is in place. Does anyone know how a private person can offer a personal video for sale on Google Video Store? If not, then this statement should be corrected. AxelBoldt 18:53, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
