Talk:Gonzaga College

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article is the biggest load of crap I have ever read in my whole life. Its sounds like a typical 'D4' article. The fact that it has been written, mostly, by ip users doesn't surprise me at all. A couple of Gonzaga students have gone in and wrecked the article. It is one of the most biased articles on wiki and, unfortunately, if I was to remove all biased or unfounded statements the article would be no more than a skeleton article. I must apoligise in advance but I must confirm to all those who suspected it before, I am in public school myself.--Play Brian Moore 22:55, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
I've added some footnote references to the 'Academic Excellence' paragraph. Feel free to remove any bias. Not that it's relevant, but I am not a student of this school.Curtains99 23:58, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
I'd be interested if someone could elaborate on how Gonzaga is "progressive". As an alumnus, I found the school to be quite conservative. SimonL 21:42, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
The article claims the school has progressive ideals, not that it is progressive. The school has various social work programs, has made use of modern architecture in church and other buildings and had a history in the 1950s and 1960s of emphasis on education rather than exams. However it is essentially a traditional Irish Catholic private school that has the effect of preserving privilege amongst upper middle class Dublin families.Curtains99 12:33, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
Fenian, if you could give some examples of bias from the article, I'd be happy to re-word it. "Its sounds like a typical 'D4' article" isn't exactly constructive criticism. SimonL 21:41, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Crap such as due in part to the use of entrance examinations to select pupils and to the socio-economic backgrounds of the parents of pupils who can afford the fees. What a load of crap. The public school I go to has entrance exams, its not a big deal. I could afford to go to Gonzaga. Its far from the most expensive school around. Get over yourself Gonzaga.--Play Brian Moore 22:12, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
I think you may be right - this is speculation. Gonzaga may be achieving high academic results due to any number of factors, good teachers, wealthy parents paying for grinds, who knows? I just had a look at the Irish Times league tables for secondary schools (subscription required) from last year which rates schools according to the percentage of leaving cert students going on to third level education of any kind. This chart puts Gonzaga in 5th position in Dublin after St Conleths, Holy Child, CBC Monkstown and Coláiste Eoin. I think this data is more relevant than gueses as to why the school is performing well. Curtains99 14:28, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sports

What is the league cup? Is it a secondary competition for teams knocked out of the main tournament?Curtains99 16:08, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
