Domingos José Gonçalves de Magalhães (1811-1882) was a Brazilian romanticist. He is credited for beginning the era of Brazilian Romanticism with his 1836 poetry collection Suspiros poéticos e saudades. He was also a playwright who was the first Brazilian to write a tragedy.[1]
