From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As the Spanish family name Gómez, the Portuguese variant is a patronymic version of the medieval given name Gome or Gomo, meaning literally "son of Gome".

[edit] Coat of arms

On the coat of arms you will find a Swan tending to her three chicks in a nest. This image is positioned upon a charge. The image is duplicated upon this charge, but upon a coronet.

When analyzing this crest we can determine that is extremely old. It is not an extravagant emblem, which became popular after the 16th century. As well, by looking at the colours, they are very subtle with blue being the more predominant. This is another indication of its age, since newer coat of arms are more vibrant in colour and make use of more colours. The blue itself is an older colour.
