[edit] Rise to Success
Goldie Hill is probably best known for her 1953 hit "I Let The Stars Get In My Eyes", which was an answer song to "Don't Let the Stars Get In Your Eyes", a hit song for Slim Willet, Perry Como and Skeets McDonald. Goldie Hill opened doors for many future female Country singers like Jean Shepard, Patsy Cline and Skeeter Davis. Her career started in 1952 when she performed on the show Louisiana Hayride and shortly after, Hill landed a contract with Decca Records. "I Let the Stars Get In My Eyes" became a big hit soon after. Goldie Hill became one of the few female country singers on the charts that year, like her Kitty Wells, who gained success the previous year. Goldie Hill remained on the charts with a few solid follow-ups after the success of "I Let the Stars Get in My Eyes". These hits were mainly duets like "Looking Back to See" and "Sure Fire Kisses", both duets with Justin Tubb. Other hit singles were "Are You Mine", a duet with Red Sovine and "I'm Beginning to Feel Mistreated", which was a solo single by Hill.
[edit] Settling Down
In 1957, Goldie Hill got married to Country singer Carl Smith and married life ended the career of Goldie Hill. However, Goldie Hill did make two albums in the early 60s, for Epic Records, but both failed gaining success. In 2005 Goldie Hill died of cancer. She is survived by her husband Carl Smith and their three children and a stepdaughter Carlene Carter.
