Goldfish are American snack crackers manufactured by the Campbell Soup Company and marketed under the "Pepperidge Farm" brand. The crackers come in several flavors and are shaped and colored like small, cartoonish goldfish. Some have smiles, while others lack any expression. Though not fat-free, Goldfish contain zero grams of trans fat and are touted as an alternative to potato chips since they are baked instead of fried. Since their shape, color and taste make them popular with children, Campbell's focuses its marketing on kids and sells plastic, goldfish-shaped snack caddies designed to carry a handful of the small snacks. They also market a line of promotional material, such as T-shirts.

[edit] Advertising

The product's advertising tagline is, "The Snack That Smiles Back." The lyrics to a former advertising jingle are as follows:

Let's hear it now for Goldfish
Yes, baked and not fried Goldfish
The yummy snack that smiles back
Until you bite their heads off
Did you know they're made with real cheese
Even though they look like fishies?
The snack that smiles back, Goldfish!

New advertisements show three goldfish, who are friends, living in a goldfish world under a bed.
