[edit] History
Golden East Crossing opened in 1986 and lured a number of tenants from nearby Tarrytown Mall, located two miles south on US 301 Bypass. The former mall continued to hang with a collection of mostly local stores until it was heavily flooded by the remnants of Hurricane Floyd in September 1999. Golden East, which was not located in a flood plain unlike Tarrytown, survived the storm unscathed.
Golden East also had Proffitt's as a fourth anchor from 1998 to 2005, when the chain was bought out by Belk. Previously, the space was home to Rose's from 1986 to 1991 and Brody's from 1992 until 1998, when Proffitt's took over. That space was divided in late 2005 and early 2006 into two sub-anchors, Bed, Bath, and Beyond which opened in July 2006 and Ross Dress For Less which will open in September 2006.
