Golan Levin

Golan Levin (born 1972) is an artist, composer, performer and engineer with a specialization in interactive art. Levin received undergraduate and graduate degrees from the MIT Media Lab. As of 2006, he is Assistant Professor of Electronic Time-Based Art at Carnegie Mellon University.
Levin works with interactive, computer-driven media art that that explore audiovisual expression. His work has focused on the design of systems for the creation and performance of simultaneous image and sound, as part of a more general examination of communications protocols for individual engagement and non-verbal dialogue. He belongs to the tradition of color organs and visual music.
He has received grants from the Rockefeller Foundation, Creative Capital Foundation, New York Foundation for the Arts, Arts Council England, The Greenwall Foundation, Daniel Langois Foundation, and MIT Council for the Arts. His work is in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, American Museum of the Moving Image, Exploratorium, Ars Electronica and Computer Fine Arts.
