I decided to completely rework the "Player-created culture and history" section, because the way it was written, it was not of much use to those not playing the game. If you're curious, the older versions should still be available if you click the "history" tab at the top of the article page. B7T 20:56, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Other edits

This section is intended for discussion of lesser editing issues related to article development.

I decided to subdivide the links at the bottom for clarification; I was wondering if the donation page link at the bottom should actually be included in the "Official links" section. B7T 01:17, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

"Player" vs. "participant": To avoid an appearance of stylistic tedium, I don't really like to keep using the same descriptor throughout an article, so I thought the article could alternate between these terms. If there are any objections, or suggestions for alternative descriptors, please note them here. B7T 11:48, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

GNHF is now GoKrida Foundation? Despite the website at gokrida.org still calling the foundation the GNHF, I think this should be edited to "GoKrida Foundation" because of the recent changes, but I'm wondering if I should wait until that site is updated to reflect this. (My thanks to whoever recently edited this bit.) B7T 14:12, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Miscellaneous Edits: I re-read the the article and edited a few things that caught my eye. Under the premise section, I noted that the number of players is thought to be in the low hundreds. Also, I changed the part about the elements to indicate that souls can become chaos and angelic (only mentioned chaos), but not by using the gates (although that part may still be unclear). Finally, I noticed that although I added the YS part, the part describing worlds (full, escape) didn't mention oversized, so I added a sentence onto that mentioning the oversized category of worlds, although I didn't mention exactly how variable they are. (oops, forget to sign my name ><) Evyndd 03:43, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

I hadn't planned to mention more detail on Chaos and Angelic; I did make the allusion that souls in Heaven are all Angelic, though, so technically the character type had already been mentioned. Thanks for the edits, and marking some of them as minor edits. In future, though, you might want to add some comment in the Edit summary section so I or another Wikipedian won't revert your edits without cause; it'll also keep this discussion page free of less serious editing concerns. Added bullets to the world/organization sections under Player-Created Culture and History, as the line breaks weren't sufficient in keeping text from flowing into each other at smaller screen resolutions. Also added some information to Blue Twin and altered RY to make it more accurate. (RY currently is a public world, rather than in the process of becoming public.) [edit] Images

While screenshots certainly are appreciated, the image recently linked on the page did not seem to be inserted properly; also, it was rather large and a bit indistinct. Although I deleted it, feel free to tweak the size and clarity; then read the help page, and upload it again. B7T 02:24, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Suggestions for further improvement

Perhaps this article should be included as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Computer and video games. B7T 21:30, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Screenshots might be nice! B7T 21:04, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Looking over the old versions of the article, I found that there was originally a lot more in-game culture info than what I ended up editing. If somebody wants to put some of the edited stuff back in, it might be worth a try; I suggest it should be accurate, well-written, and interesting even to those who have no intention of playing the game, as an example of fictional history and culture. B7T 02:25, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Pronunciation: I thought that the pronunciation of "GoKrida" should be added at the top of the article, but I'm not that familiar with the International Phonetic Alphabet preferred by Wikipedia. (See this article from the style manual.) And for completeness, perhaps someone could also add the words "go" and "krida" as they are rendered in their native scripts. B7T 13:09, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Based on a board game?

There is a document that apparently used to be on the GoKrida site, mentioning that this game is based on or inspired by a centuries-old board game. I can't seem to find out anything to verify this; although it might be something that is still popular in parts of Asia. Any insight would be appreciated. B7T 02:14, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Current size of GoKrida

Roughly what is the current amount of active players in GoKrida? --HResearcher 12:17, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

That information is uncertain; not even the participants themselves know for sure, although there's actually a project underway in-game to help determine that. There is this, but it should be obvious even to a non-participant that each participant can look at several pages each session, so that may be inconclusive. B7T 00:02, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Re the server stats: On the other hand, due to the length of time it takes to complete actions, and the fact that actions can be queued in advance, some participants probably don't log in for days at a time, and aren't always included in the page views, so maybe it evens out. B7T 00:20, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the link. I was wondering because some it had been asked on the afd page how many users there were. At least an estimate would do. dozens? hundreds? thousands? --HResearcher 09:39, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
From the stats page, it look like Gokrida roughly gets anywhere from 10,000-40,000 hits per 2-week period. --HResearcher 09:41, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
I would guess that there are probably around 250 players who regularly log in at least once a week, but really I have no idea: it could be thousands or dozens; my estimate is based on casual observation and remembering the usernames of various participants on the in-game forums. There could be many who don't participate in the public forums, and keep out of view of everybody in the field. While this is supposed to be a social simulation, the game can be just as interesting for a solitary player and forum lurker. B7T 15:28, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] How old is GoKrida?

Some of the in-game forums, although not dated by year, seem to go back as far as at least 2003, and a page found in the Internet Archive Wayback Machine indicates that it was online at the beginning of 2002 at chira.com, where GoKrida used to be hosted. Does anybody know if it existed earlier than that? B7T 10:51, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Random discussion

This section is for comments not directly related to the development of the article.

I would like to thank all the recent contributors. I would have liked to have thanked you at your Wikipedia user pages, but none of you were logged in. (If you are indeed GoKrida participants, I would hope the irony of unnamed Wikipedia contributors being represented by an IP address was not lost on you. ;-)) B7T 11:41, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Aren't there any other GoKridan Wikipedians? Am I the only regular participant at both sites? :) Most of the edits here (that aren't mine) are by those who haven't even logged in! B7T 14:16, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

I created the initial wikipedia page sometime around January, but my knowledge of Wikipedia protocol is rather nonexistant, so after creating the inital page and sections (which are visible in the history) I haven't really added or altered anything significant that I can remember, UNTIL today, as I added YS to the list of worlds. It probably needs some editing, as it's not very eloquent... Evyndd 07:18, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
Yes, thanks for that, and the recent addition. Alas, my own edit to it makes it even less eloquent, though hopefully more encyclopedic. I almost feel apologetic for rather completely revamping the article itself, but of course this is meant to be a collaborative effort. I hope there will be more collaboration in the future, such that the history pages don't say B7T, B7T, B7T, B7T.... B7T 14:25, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Archives are awesome. I recently took a closer look at some of the earlier revisions of this article. Some wonderful stuff there, but unfortunately mostly irrelevant to the purpose of Wikipedia. However, as it's still available, I suggest any potential new GoKrida participants give it a look; you might find it useful. B7T 00:09, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
