Gohardasht Prison

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gohardasht Prison is a notorious prison in the outskirt of Karaj, approximately 20 km west of Tehran and is also known as Rajaye Shahr.

In the immediate aftermath of the Islamic Revolution, there were many systematic executions and interrogation of former members of the overthrown monarchy, military and anyone who Khomeini's regime perceived as opposing the revolutionary government. Also Members of the liberal, Marxist and socialist groups (mostly university students), and supporters of The People's Mujahedin of Iran who opposed to the theocratic regime were imprisoned and many of them were executed.

After the war with Iraq ended, in 1988, Khomeini issued an order to his guards to kill every Iranian political prisoner who would not repent anti-regime activities. No one knows the number, but many say that thousands were swiftly put to death inside the prisons. One of which is Gohardasht.
