Goblins are one of the Eight Fairy Families os the Artemis Fowl series. They are reptilian creatures with a tendency to lick their own eyeballs, as they have no eyelids. They can also conjure fire, which is described as an evolutionary joke: "Goblins. Evolution's little joke. Pick the dumbest creatures on the planet and give them the ability to conjure fire." They are very stupid, with an IQ not much higher than that of trolls or stinkworms. A goblin's skin is completely fireproof, although Mulch Diggums manages to burn one ("Wart-face") by plugging up his nostrils and letting the fire scorch his insides. They are most prominent in the series in the goblin rebellion featured in Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident and are often criminals.
