GoBack
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Norton GoBack (previously known as Wildfile GoBack, Adaptec GoBack, Roxio GoBack) is a Microsoft Windows based disk utility, that can record up to 8Gb of disk changes. When the filesystem is idle for a few seconds, it marks these as "safe points". The product allows the disk drive to be reverted to any safe point. It does this by effectively undoing all changes made to the disk since the safe point.

[edit] How it works
GoBack replaces the Master Boot Record, and also replaces the partition table with a single partition. This allows a hard drive to be reverted even in the event that the Operating System is unable to boot, while also protecting the filesystem from alteration so that the revert information remains correct.
[edit] Incompatible products
Due to the changes made to the partition table, this can cause problems when dual booting other operating systems on the same hard disk. It is possible to retain dual-boot compatibility, but can involve saving the partition table before enabling GoBack, and after enabling GoBack, re-writing the partition table back to the disk (after booting from a different device, such as a Live CD). Usage of Norton GoBack may result in inability to reformat or recover your hard disk using installed programs. In such instances users can only recover their units by resetting it with the manufacturer. It is advisable to uninstall Norton GoBack before attempting to reformat or restart your harddrive.
[edit] Usage precaution
GoBack is not compatible with RAID drives.

- April 2003, Roxio sells GoBack to Symantec for $13 million. [6]
- September, 2004, GoBack version 4 is released.
