Go-Go Gorilla & the Jungle Crew is a funny animal comic book published by Ape Entertainment. Created by Brent E. Erwin, Mike Hall, and David Hedgecock, the first issue was plotted by Brent E. Erwin, Mike Hall, and David Hedgecock, scripted by Mike Hall and David Hedgecock, and penciled by Dustin Evans. Inks and lettering were also provided by Mike Hall and David Hedgecock. These credits were listed incorrectly by the CGC when the book was added to that organization’s Signature Series at the 2005 Wizard World Chicago convention.

Go-Go Gorilla & the Jungle Crew is a parody of team super hero comics and is often compared to the short-lived 1980s humor comic Captain Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew. Perhaps not coincidentally, the first issue of Go-Go Gorilla & the Jungle Crew featured (in addition to the regular cover drawn by Jack Lawrence) a variant cover drawn by Captain Carrot co-creator Scott Shaw!, who also appeared at the Ape Entertainment booth at the 2005 Comic-Con International in San Diego, CA in promotional support of the book.

[edit] Characters and Particulars

Jungle Crew Members:

Go-Go Gorilla is the leader of the Jungle Crew, and despite surface similarities to DC ComicsSuperman, the character is thematically more similar to the original Fawcett Comics version of Captain Marvel. In his civilian identity, Go-Go Gorilla is a smallish ape working as a janitor at the Jungle City Museum of radiation of an alien meteor (no attempt is made by the book to explain this phenomenon), Simeon immediately undertook a career as a super hero. He has the “traditional” super hero powers of flight, invulnerability, super-strength, and heat vision. His weakness is his lack of self-confidence; if Go-Go’s confidence falters, he reverts to his powerless Simeon Sapien form. Under normal conditions, Simeon is able to change forms at will.
Anubia is a canine heroine wielding powerful magical artifacts.
Lady Water Dragon is a female lizard with the ability to manipulate water molecules in a variety of ways.
Mega Mouse is a giant mouse possessed of super-strength and an unknown degree of invulnerability.
Quick Cat is the youngest member of the team, and has the power of super-speed. Unfortunately, his control over his powers is somewhat limited, and he has to concentrate to avoid moving at super-speed on instinct.
Shellhead is a turtle who fights evil encased in super powered armor laden with high-tech gadgets. In his secret identity, Shellhead is the CEO of the Shellcorp corporation, clearly marking the character as a parody of Marvel ComicsIron Man.
