GnomeFiles

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

GnomeFiles is a software repository for the GTK+ widget toolkit and the GNOME desktop environment. It was launched on 16 June 2004 [1], two months after GNOME closed its software repository due to security issues. It is an admitted clone of BeBits, a similar BeOS software repository which predates it by half a decade. GnomeFiles.org is currently owned by OSNews LLC and its source code is licensed from Eugenia Loli-Queru.

Except its dedicated WAP site, the main GnomeFiles site is written using the http://www.MoBits.com mobile-browser autodetection engine, which autodetects more than 150 mobile, embedded and text-mode browsers and serves them automatically lighter, ad-free cHTML pages.

GnomeFiles serves more than 22,000 page views per day, on average (Oct 2005 statistics).
