Gnesta is a Municipality in Södermanland County, in central Sweden. Its seat is in Gnesta with some 5,000 inhabitants.
the municipality Gnesta was created quite recently in the 1990s. It is in the middle of the cultural Sörmland province. Although it only has around 10,000 permanent inhabitants, the population increases substantially in the summer due to the many summer houses.
Communcations are good, the commuting train north-east to Stockholm takes about an hour.
Industry-wise, Gnesta mostly has small companies with few employed. There are about 800 registered companies in the municipality, and a "large" company would have 25-50 employees.

The local branch of Vänsterpartiet, a minority party in the Gnesta municipal assembly, has broken ties with the mother organization to form a party of their own, Vänsterdemokraterna.
