[edit] ITV links
Hi Garry. I've removed the ITV links you put in the articles as all the links are already directly below them in the infobox (Template:ITV). Cheers, AntzUK 23:06, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
- I have removed your external link to ITV4 on Department S again. It does not follow Wikipedia:External links which many users agree on. If you disagree, please state why you think the link is revelant. There is already an internal link to ITV 4, which contains the external link for ITV 4. ant_ie 19:00, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- I have removed your external ITV links, as they merely link to ITV's home page, which is not relevant to the articles they correspond with. Thank you! -Digresser 07:29, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Edit summaries
When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.
When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

[edit] License tagging for Image:ITV Play.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:ITV Play.gif. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:UTV6.PNG
Thanks for uploading Image:UTV6.PNG. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}} .
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rory096(block) 22:49, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image Tagging Image:UTV6.PNG
|
This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading Image:UTV6.PNG. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rory096(block) 22:49, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ITV logo
Hi Garry! You're putting the current corporate logo at the top of the History of ITV article. Its use there seems to be a bit inappropriate, for three reasons: first, it's a modern logo placed without comment at the top of a historical article, implying that ITV has always used this logo; second, the logo is uncaptioned and doesn't have a good fair use rationale for use at the top of a historical article not about ITV plc, the copyright holders; and third, it is now present at the foot of the article, with a caption and with a good reason for it being there (since that section talks about ITV plc and the ITV mergers).
I'm going to remove it from the top of the article again. Please don't put it back unless you can provide a good reason for using it there (taking fair use guidelines into consideration) and without breaking the three revert rule.
Also, would you mind using edit summaries when you make a change to an article? This helps your fellow editors see at a glance what you're doing and why, when your change appears on their watchlists and helps stop your edits being mistaken for vandalism.

[edit] Erasing talk pages
Hi Garry! You've blanked your talk page. I've restored it, for the following reasons.
Help:Talk page says:
Actively erasing personal messages without replying (if a reply would be appropriate or polite) will probably be interpreted as hostile. In the past, this kind of behavior has been viewed as uncivil, and this can become an issue in arbitration or other formal proceedings.
Also, if your talk page has warnings about conduct or advice on future contributions, it is considered vandalism by many people to blank the page.
Perhaps your talk page was getting a bit full? In that case, you might like to read Wikipedia:How to archive a talk page, which has useful advice on how to get old talk that isn't current any more out of the way without giving the impression you are hiding it.
Hope this helps! ➨ ❝REDVERS❞ 19:27, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ITV links
Hi. I notice you've added a link to the ITV website to all sorts of programme pages. Please restrict links to articles to which they are directly relevant. ITV shows can link to the ITV article, which then links to itv.com. Links should expand on the information available on the page. See Wikipedia:External links. Thanks. —Whouk (talk) 06:52, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
- You are adding itv.com to all of the articles of programmes shown on ITV. Could you please explain why? We much prefer that articles contain only specific links to that topic. Anyone wishing for more information on ITV can easily go to the ITV article, which is the appropriate place for a link to ITV.com. The JPS 08:41, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Are you interested in joining a project
Hello. We have a project in which you might be interested. It's at Wikipedia:WikiProject British TV shows. One thing you could do, for instance, since you're obviously interested in ITV, is to add the infobox to some programme articles, like the one that is on Boon (TV series). Don't worry about the images: just leave that field blank. Try not to do too many at once: try to get feedback of what you've done from a more experienced editor -- I'm more than happy to do that. The JPS 14:52, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
- Hey - you've done a really good job so far. Thanks for adding those boxes. One thing, though -- for British television programmes, we are trying to use the style used in the Boon (TV series) article. It would be great if you could use that one. There is no need to undo the work you've already done, though, so there's no need to go back and change what you've done today. Keep up the good work! I see you've taken Redvers' advice and started to use edit summaries too! Yay! The JPS talk to me 22:12, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
- As said above, try to use the British TV programme infobox instead of the international one. Just to make it all look similar. To join the project, just add your name to the user list on the link above. Cheers, AntzUK 22:26, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ITV link again
Please do not continue to add the general ITV link to articles such as UFO (TV series). Links are only supposed to be about the specific topic. Please note that if you attempt to add the link to the UFO article again today (April 30) you may be in violation of the Three Revert Rule. If you are adamant that the link be added, please state your case on the Talk Page for that article, to see if consensus can be reached. 23skidoo 18:21, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- The rule for external links is that they have to be to pages about the article subject. It's not permissible to add a link to ITV's general website to every individual TV show that airs on the network — if ITV has subpages specifically about UFO or Due South, then you can add those URLs to the shows' articles, but you cannot link directly to ITV's general homepage if that page doesn't specifically discuss UFO or Due South. Bearcat 22:55, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Edit summaries
Garry, for crying out loud - please use edit summaries. All the articles you edit are on my watchlist; your lack of edit summaries means I have to check each and every single edit you ever make. When you're asked to do this, you do it for the next three edits and then stop again. It's not just me you're annoying - it's everyone with these articles watched, plus the entire Recent Changes patrol who will also be double checking everything you do.
In the "my preferences" option (top right of your screen if you're using Monobook) is an option "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary". Why don't you tick that option so Wikipedia reminds you? It'll help everybody. If nothing else, a mistaken edit + no edit summary = a warning for vandalism. Four warnings for vandalism = a block from editing.
Please, please, please Garry - summarise your edits for the hundred or so fellow editors who have to watch your every move at the moment. Thanks. ➨ ≡ЯΞDVΞRS≡ 22:42, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Images
Hello. For images, please folow the instructions on the upload page and:
- ALWAYS provide a copyright tag AND a source
- tagging them as 'don't know' is a waste of everyone's time. When you do this you are creating work for other people.
- If it is a genuine screenshot, then {{tv-screenshot}} is the one to use. Providing a description on the image description page will be the source. Please go through all of the images you have uploaded and ensure you have do this. I would do it, but I have spent too much time already this week tidying up after you.
- Images downloaded from teh web are usually copyrighted, so we cannot accept them.
Why don't you create a user page to tell us a bit about yourself?
