On wikipolicy:

Claims of bad faith are often used to justify actions without a rational basis in fact. Intent is very difficult to determine, especially online, and almost impossible to gain consensus around. It is much easier to gather consensus around actions because they are measurable and can be considered objectively. Furthermore, many cases of bad edits have been made in good faith. There is never a reason to stray from assuming good faith because our policy acts almost exclusively on actions, not intent. The cost of incorrectly labeling someone a malfeasant is potentially quite high, while the cost of enduring a few more bad edits before we meet a criteria high enough for intervention is necessarily low. In short, presume good faith, block bad actors.

[edit] Database Queries

From time to time I perform various bit of analysis against the wikipedia database, some of these are useful to a wider audience so I make them available here. I used to provide a number of real time tools, but due to toolserver I do not provide any at this time. I operate my own offline full text database of Wikipedia on my own server (floodlamp), a quad opteron with 8GB ram and 3.9TB disk. I take query requests and will provide accounts for others to use.

Todo:

  • Setup accounts on Floodlamp for other users.

Requests:

  • None at this time.

Gmaxwell has contributed a few images and vector drawings to Wikipedia, they are all GFDL-1.2 licensed. Most of his photos were not taken explicitly for Wikipedia, and thus they tend to be a little artsy. He likes them, but will not be offended if someone finds better images for the articles where they are used.

Gmaxwell may also make his works be available under other licenses than the GFDL-1.2 in exchange for freeing unfree works, trading off for new works being made, charitable contributions, or just direct monetary compensation. Contact: gmaxwell@gmail.com.

[edit] Authorizations

As indicated explicitly on some of my images, if you are a (commercial) publisher and you want me to write you an email or paper mail giving you an authorization to use my works in your products or a license with the terms of your choice: I may be willing to do so. Use the "E-mail this user" link on the left sidebar.
