A small stunning fish with a luminous orange band, reminiscent of the Glowlight tetra and vertical black bars, plus distinctive yellow stripes on the fins. There is also a lesser known regional variant from the Putao area of northern Myanmar, known as the "Northern Glowlight Danio" or alternatively by the invalid scientific name "Danio putaoensis". This "putao" variant is larger, has more vertical bars and longer barbels. It may be possible that the two are separate species hovever insufficent research has been done to confirm this.
Originally named as Danio choprae, the was named after a Dr Chopra, however as Dr Chopra was a man the last letter should theoreticalyl have been 'i' not 'e' which is reserved for species named after women. This however is the subject of some controversy, as the intricacies of the naming conventions may allow for the "ae" in some situations and it is unclear whether, even if named incorrectly in the first place, it is possible to rename the fish.
