Glowfoto

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Glowfoto is a free image hosting website. Site launched in November 2004, offering free image hosting to the public. Glowfoto is particularly popular with MySpace users, who use it to embed additional images in their profiles.

The image file format must be either JPEG, JPG, PNG, GIF, or BMP.

After the file is uploaded, the user is redirected to a page containing codes which can be pasted into various sites. These codes are HTML, Bulletin Board code, simple URLs and even Wiki Markup.

Images are stored on Glowfoto indefinitely unless the image or the user who uploaded it abuses the Terms of Service. Unlike other sites like Imageshack and Photobucket, there is no bandwidth limitation on images (with the sole exception of MySpace -- but users can upgrade their account for a small fee to bypass this).

Users can also create accounts which allow them to organize images into galleries, albums, blogs and/or groups. Albums can be public, password protected, or viewable only by those on the user's friends list. Glowfoto has a social networking system similar to MySpace and Friendster.

Also unlike Imageshack, Glowfoto does allow adult content, as long as it is locked or otherwise inaccessible to those who don't wish to see it. Viewers can access the site in filtered or unfiltered mode, to prevent or allow adult images from appearing.
