GLOBUL is the second-largest Bulgarian GSM operator. The company, which reached 2,600,000 customers in June 2006, was founded in 2001, and is 100% owned by Greek telecommunications corporation COSMOTE, which is active in five Balkan countries: Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Macedonia and Albania.

As of end-November 2006, GLOBUL has 3.00 million subscribers, nearly two-thirds of them pre-paid users.

The company is among the biggest green field investment in Bulgaria with over BGN 1.1 billion (EUR 550 million) invested by end-2005 in the development of GLOBUL’s network and services. GLOBUL's network covers 99,6% of Bulgaria’s population and 97% of the country’s territory. The company has roaming agreements with 307 operators in 141 countries and territories worldwide. After considerable investments in development and optimization, the company’s network is ready to provide services to over 3,5 million customers.

In 2005, GLOBUL received a license for developing and implementing 3G UMTS Standard mobile telecommunications system as well as fixed telephony license. The mobile operator was the first operator in Bulgaria to propose an integrated solution for fixed and mobile telephony, the so called mobile virtual private network (мVPN) as well as Globul 2in1, the first SIM card with two mobile numbers. GLOBUL changed their logo in June 2006 to unify it with the COSMOTE logo.

GLOBUL launched HSDPA on September 25, 2006 with full coverage in the capital city Sofia and 3 of the other major cities.
