Glimmingehus is the best preserved medieval castle in the Nordic countries. It is located in Simrishamn Municipality in the south of Sweden.

Construction was started in 1499 by a Danish knight Jens Holgersen Ulfstand, and was completed in 1506. Stone-cutter-mason and architect was the North German master Adam van DĆ¼ren.

Glimmingehus served during fifty years as a residential house before it was abandoned. During the 18th century the castle was used as deposit for agricultural use. In 1924 it was donated to the Swedish state. Today it is administered by the Swedish National Heritage Board (RiksantikvarieƤmbetet).

On site there is a museum, medieval kitchen, shop and restaurant and coffe house. During summer time there are several guided tours daily.

Some believe the castle is haunted by multiple ghosts.
